Stedelijke basisschool Korspel "De Hoeksteen" - Beringen

During the summer vacation of 2024, SYMOBO realized the demolition of an obsolete building and the installation of a brand-new, circular and fully demountable 108 m² classroom building on behalf of the City of Beringen.

The modular building consists of two classrooms of 36 m² and 54 m² respectively, connected by a central corridor equipped with functional coat racks. SYMOBO tackled this project with its characteristic focus on maximum prefabrication: no less than 80% of the building was pre-fabricated. This resulted in a highly efficient construction time on site and minimal impact on the environment.

Thanks to this prefabricated approach, windows, doors, exterior walls, subfloors, painted interior walls, sanitary facilities and technical pipes could be pre-integrated into the workshop. Only the installation of larger technical components, such as heat pumps and ventilation systems, took place on site after the modules were installed.

Plug & Play at school level

The building was delivered ready to move in:

• Interior walls painted and finished
• Windows and doors fully assembled
• Front walls with sanitary connections
• Exterior walls including finishing installed
• Subfloor prepared for the final finish with vinyl

Sustainable and circular construction

In addition to speed and quality, sustainability was at the heart of this project. The modular classroom building is fully demountable and reusable, so it fits perfectly into the circular building philosophy. After the period of use, the building can be reused elsewhere with minimal loss of materials.

Happy faces on September 1

On September 1, students and teachers moved into the new modular classrooms. The first day of school started in a fresh, modern and comfortable learning environment. Both the pedagogical team and the children are very enthusiastic about the spacious, bright and well-ventilated building that offers all modern comfort. The smooth start of the school year confirmed the success of this progressive way of building.

With this project, SYMOBO once again proves that innovative prefabricated techniques go perfectly with sustainable and forward-looking construction, a vision that the City of Beringen fully endorses.
